Australia's EMV Card Issuance TO Grow in 2006

Australia's banks, in 2006, will issue 11.9 million EMV cards, significantly more than the 7.9million in 2005. By 2009 EMV cards will account for most of the smart card market.

TO date, ANZ, which has issued over half a million chip cards is the only bank to have smart card-enabled all its PoS terminals, but Visa Australia reports about 60 to 70 percents of its terminals to be EMV-enabled..
