EMV ROLL OUT IN AFRICA
The EMV standards enable debit and credit card payment
transaction to occur using chip technology. Chip card
technology is thirty years old and it is only now that the
technology is being introduced in a big way into the banking
industry. It has taken long time to agree on standards to
secure the interoperability so vital in the banking
industry.
In practical terms, a chip card issued by a South
African bank will work in a terminal owned by a Brazilian
bank.
